This will really enable me play a very significant role in this direction. It will help me participate actively in the planning and implementation of the network. TECHNICAL SKILLS ================ Unix User?*: true How much have you used it? -------------------------- Have setup a unix DNS and mail server. I am very comfortable with Free BSD and the servers I administer run on Mandriva Linux 2009. I have also setup some desktops on linux. I have been using this since 2006 Have you been a UNIX admin?*: true Describe your experience (length of time, versions, etc.) --------------------------------------------------------- I have been using unix in the capacity of System Administrator since 2006. I have installed and administered Free BSD version 5, 6 and 7.5. I have also installed and administered the Red Hat, Mandriva 2009 and Suse 11. I preferred unix for its reliability, stability and security. I have experienced peace since I started administering Unix machines because it hardly gives problem other than power related issues that emanate from unclean shutdown Have you used/administered TCP/IP nets?*: true Describe --------- I have implemented Vlans on our LAN. The LAN is divided into 12 Vlans including DMZ. Each Vlan has been assigned a different IP block (private IPs) for ease of troubleshooting and identification. All these addresses now go outside through the a single Public IP our gateway. IP addresses are like PC or network equipment identifiers on the network so resources could be shared. Right now exploring the option of tapping into the potentials of ICT as a great equalizing force. Encouraging universities to set up e-learning centres. My organization is currently championing the NgReN initiative. All the servers run on open source. All the connect to a router and from the router to a CISCO Pix firewall and then to our gateway which is the ISPs router. Attending the track on Network Infrastructure will equip me with the necessary skills to move this project forward. How you expect to use the knowledge you gain at the workshop after you return to your country* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This knowledge garnered from this course will better position me in planning and implementing the Nigerian Universities Broadband Network which my organisation is will soon start implementating. I have also been able to influence the decision of the management of my organization in favour of Open Source operating systems for all our servers.
